The Siren Spa Ritual is the darker sister of the usual mermaid bath - quieter, heavier and considerably less turquoise. It is built for the evening when the answer to everything is a locked bathroom door. The ritual has five stages and they take as long as you let them. It asks you to name what has been taking too much, put it down outside the door, get into hot water, stay there past the point of usefulness, and come out slowly.

Three editions. There is nothing to achieve in this bath, and nobody to become by the end of it.

Before you begin

Do not bathe by candlelight alone: this ritual asks you to turn the main light off, so leave enough light to get in and out safely, and never leave a flame burning while bathing or dozing. Keep the candle, the burner and its tealight well away from towels, the edge of the bath and anything that can be knocked into water, and let the burner cool before you move it. The ritual water contains alcohol and essential oils - keep it away from flames, out of your eyes and mouth, and off broken skin. Bath salts, soap and oil make a bath and its surfaces slippery; take care getting in and out and rinse the bath afterwards. The mask, the soap, the oil and the cream are cosmetics: use each one only as its own label directs, patch-test if your skin is sensitive, and keep the mask away from your eyes. The roller, the dish, the mala and the bracelet are not toys and are not for children; the dish is heavy. Keep every item, and all packaging, away from babies, children and pets. This is a candle, some salt for the water, a few things for skin, a dark stone dish and a deck of cards, put together so that one evening has a shape to it and a door that closes; nothing here treats, prevents or cures anything.
