Most of the Valentine range is for people who are in a relationship. This one is not. It is face masks, warm drinks, a deck of cards and an evening that runs about two hours longer than anybody planned — and it is deliberately the lightest thing we make.

Nothing here is a skincare routine and nothing here is going to fix anybody. These are nice things to put on your face while you talk. Nobody is being improved here. The products are in the box because using them together is a nice way to spend a Tuesday, and that is the entire proposition.

Safety and responsible use

The clay masks, bath products, loofah, lotion and body butter are skin and bath products: use each one only as its own label directs, and stop if it causes irritation or discomfort. PATCH-TEST THE CLAY MASK BEFORE PUTTING IT ON A FACE, especially on sensitive skin, and keep it away from the eyes. None of these is a medicine or a treatment, and none of them is suitable for broken skin. The teas are food: check the ingredients on the packet if anybody has an allergy.

The candles:

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep away from children and pets.
  • Keep away from draughts, curtains and flammable materials.
  • Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • Do not move while lit or while wax is hot.
  • Extinguish fully before leaving the room or going to sleep.
  • Follow the candle manufacturer's burn-time and wick instructions.
  • Bath products make a bath and its surfaces slippery. Take care getting in and out, and do not take a bath by candlelight alone.
  • The bath salt vials are glass. Do not take them into the bath or use them anywhere they could break underfoot.
  • Rinse and dry the loofah after use and replace it when it starts to look tired.
  • The bracelets and the roller are not toys and are not for children.
  • Keep every item, and all packaging, away from babies, children and pets.
  • Retain the manufacturer’s packaging and instructions.

Follow the original instructions supplied with every item. Do not ingest, inhale, burn, heat, apply to the skin or place any item in food, drink or bathwater unless the manufacturer's packaging expressly confirms that use. Keep candles, small objects, fragranced products and packaging away from children and pets. Never leave a flame unattended. Stop using any product that causes irritation or discomfort.

What this is, and what it is not

This is a candle, some bath and body products, a deck of printed questions and a couple of things worth keeping, put together so that one evening feels like an occasion instead of a Tuesday. It is a gift, not a service and not a course, and nothing in it is offered as doing anything to anybody. What it can do is give two friends a reason to put a date in the diary, which is most of the problem with friendship after about thirty.
