Winter comforts, seasonal symbols and old-world atmosphere.

The Yuletide Magic Ritual is an evening built around the darkest point of the year, when the days are shortest and about to turn - a candle with a wooden wick that crackles like a fire somebody else is tending, a black tea with cinnamon or chai, a bath, a notebook, a pale stone to stand where the light catches it, and in the larger editions a star cut from salt, a burner for the winter scents, and a candle called The Sun to light last.

Before you begin

The salt star takes a tealight only; stand it on a heat-resistant surface, never leave it burning unattended, and keep it dry - it is cut from natural salt and will weep in a damp room. The burners take a tealight beneath and oil in the dish, never left unattended and never with the dish dry; let them cool before moving them. Woodwick candles crackle and can spit; keep them away from anything that can catch, and prefer LED candles where the story does not require a real flame. Fragrance oils are for the burner only, never on skin. The roll-on contains citrus oils: patch-test it, keep it off broken skin and away from the eyes, and follow its label. Bath dust and bath bombs make a bath slippery; take care getting in and out, and check the Silent Night pack for wheat if anybody has an allergy. Do not bathe by candlelight alone. The moonstone, the pendulums, the bracelet and the pendant are decorative objects, not toys and not for children; do not place the stones in water, drink or food. The teas contain caffeine. Keep every item, and all packaging, away from babies, children and pets. This is a candle, a tea, a notebook and some winter symbols, put together so that the darkest evening of the year has a shape to it; nothing here treats, prevents or cures anything.
